As I've talked about before, I've embarked on a reading challenge this year to read 25 books. I've been tracking my progress on Goodreads, you can follow me here, and I'm right on track! The year started off slowly but over the last 2 months I've been reading a lot more and it makes me feel really good!
Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte
I have always wanted to start reading more of the classics so I thought this would be a good one to get me on a roll with them. While I love the plot, the relationship between Heathcliff and Cathy is so tragically beautiful, I struggled with the period language. English was never a strong subject for me at school and I don't know if this is a factor, but I couldn't fully immerse myself in this book as I had to decipher the language all the time. I would love to watch the different movie adaptations because then I could fully appreciate the story, but I wish I could have loved this more.
A Game of Thrones - George R.R. Martin
When I started watching the show, I thought I would never read the books but one day, I decided to give it a go. I like to watch fantasy things but I'm not really into reading books about fantasies, except Harry Potter of course! I think I definitely prefer the TV show, it's a lot easier to understand. The book is really long, it's hard to keep up with all the characters and can sometimes feel a little draining. From now on, I'll be sticking to the show.
The Girl on the Train - Paula Hawkins
I am one of those people who has to read books before seeing the movie, I don't know why but I love to imagine what it will be like before seeing another's perception of it and seeing what the similarities are. When I saw this was going to be released as a movie this year, I quickly picked up the book to read it. I honestly cold not put it down and I finished it within a few days. It gets to a point where even if it's after midnight, you have to keep on reading because you want to find out what happens before you go to bed. If you enjoyed Gone Girl, you will definitely love this one. Some people are saying they are the same. I don't think they are, they are both thrillers but the way the story is told and the conflicts between characters are what makes it different and a really riveting read!
What have you been reading lately? Any good recommendations?
